General care for all textile products

We hope you love your purchase from Tonic Living! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to help you beautify your home. Keep your product looking its best with these tips:

Vacuum or dust frequently. As dust and dirt cause fabrics to wear more quickly, we recommend routine care such as light dusting or vacuuming at low suction (with a clean soft brush attachment).

Bring outdoor pillows and cushions inside during poor weather conditions. While our fabrics are made to hold up under various weather conditions, they are not indestructible.  Keep your outdoor products in their best condition by bringing them inside if it is raining or snowing.

We recommend spot cleaning or dry cleaning to prevent shrinkage and to keep the colours vivid and crisp.  Depending on the fiber content and product use, care instructions will vary. You can find this information in the individual product listings. See below for additional care instructions for Drapery, Upholstery, and Foam Bench Cushions. Contact us if you have any further questions.

If you have purchased fabric from another source for custom sewing, contact your supplier for care instructions.

Upholstered Furniture, Foam Bench Cushion Care

If you are using our fabric for upholstery, we recommend you do not remove the seat covers on a sofa to be dry cleaned separately as the covers may look different from the rest of the piece after cleaning.  For bench cushions, remove foam from covers before cleaning.

  • Check our fabric product listing for detailed care instructions.  If you have purchased fabric from another source outside of Tonic Living, request the fabric care instructions.
  • Vacuum frequently to prevent the build up of dust and dirt.
  • Use a professional furniture cleaning service when an overall soiled condition has been reached.
  • Fibers may shrink if the cleaning process involves water, steam or heat.  Be sure to discuss your needs with your cleaning professional to determine the best method of cleaning.
  • Tonic Living is not responsible for cleaning errors.

  • Drapery Care

We do not recommend machine or hand-washing drapes as the outer drape fabric and lining fabrics may shrink at different rates.  Frequent dusting or vacuuming of your drapes will preserve the look of your drapes. If you choose to take your drapes to the dry cleaners or hire a professional drapery cleaning service, keep these tips in mind:

  • Check our fabric product listing for detailed care instructions.  If you have purchased fabric from another source outside of Tonic Living, request the fabric care instructions.
  • Chose a reputable dry clean professional and be sure they are equipped and qualified for drapery cleaning.  Common practice for an experienced cleaner is to photograph your drapes and record full measurements prior to the cleaning process.
  • Natural fibers may shrink during a regular dry cleaning process.  Be sure to discuss your needs with your dry cleaning professional to determine the best method of cleaning.
  • Tonic Living is not responsible for errors by dry cleaners.

  •  Dry Cleaning

  • Spot Clean

  • Before spot cleaning, blot up liquids on surface with a clean soft towel, and brush off any loose dirt or debris.
  • Always test a small inconspicuous area first to prevent damage or discolouration to the fabrics.
  • Do not rub or brush excessively, which may cause fuzzing.

  •  High Performance fabrics

High Performance fabric collection is a remarkably durable, stain resistant line that allows life to happen around you without the anxiety of stains resulting from a good time!  Clean up is made easy with soap and water, and in the of cases tough stains, water and bleach may be used.  Refer to our individual product listing for specific cleaning instructions.

Many of our High Performance products are made from olefin.  Olefin's advantages are its strength, colourfastness, and resistance to staining, mildew, abrasion, and sunlight.  These products should not be dry cleaned, and stain resistant coating should not be applied as these solvents may damage fabric fibers.

As part of our High Performance collection, we proudly carry the Inside Out® fabric line, the all-in-one performance outdoor fabric that can weather the storm, both inside and out. Designed to be fade resistant, stain resistant, pill resistant, durable, anti-mildew, and easy to clean with soap or bleach.

While our High Performance fabrics are easier to clean, they are not indestructible.  Maintain the quality of your fabric with frequent dusting and vacuuming.  Our High Performance fabrics meet or are above industry standards but pilling may occur.
